Brewing news Czech Republic: Jihlava brewery produced a record volume of beer

Pivovar a Sodovkarna Jihlava, a.s., based in South Moravia, produced a record volume of more than 231,000 hectolitres of beer in 2005, after 128,000 hectolitres in 2004, CEO Jan Kylberger told CTK on April 20, according to Prague Daily Monitor.

Thanks to growing sale on foreign markets, especially in Belgium, Germany and Italy, output also increased in the first quarter of this year. Full-year beer production should top 300,000 hectolitres, he added.

"We want to use our capacity to the full because the brewery's operation is most economical then," he said. In the future, the company wants to produce up to 400,000 hectolitres of beer a year.

Sales rose by some 30 % to CZK 250 million last year. The firm was in red figures owing to adjustments for irrecoverable claims. Exports accounted for 65 percent of output and should exceed 75 % this year. The brewery was built in 1860. (www.pivovar-jihlava.cz)
